The Vanishing Point | Seminar and walk

The seminar “The Vanishing Point” is an effort to reflect on established patterns of thinking about the city and its inhabitants, by inviting guests to speak from different perspectives on urban planning and alternative models for the organisation of society.

Seminar: 27 - 29 September 2007, Centro Cultural Montehermoso, Vitoria-Gasteiz, Basque Country

Invited to speak were:

  • Martí Manen, independent curator and critic based in Stockholm, on “The Hökarängen and Tensta districts
  • Lise Autogena, artist based in London, on “Freetown Christiania
  • Nekane Jurado, economist and member of the activist group for social rights Elkartzen, based in Vitoria, on "Social movements: rethinking housing".

Following the two-day seminar, there was an organised walking tour around the city of Vitoria-Gasteiz, set up as a kind of dérive, in which participants are encouraged to look at the city and its expansion with new eyes, and to share their experience and interpretations with the others.
