The Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid has acquired our video "Marea, or the ecological disaster as a cultural and political phenomenon".
Produced between 2002 and 2004, this video offers an alternative account of the oil spill from the Prestige tanker which contaminated the coast of Galicia. Triggered by the large-scale mobilisation of volunteers to clean the beaches, the video frames the environmental disaster as a theatrical event in which the different social and ethical archetypes of modern society are played out against each other. As a historical document, it bears witness to one of the most intense social and political moments of the last decades in Spain, which could be said to have prefigured the rise of the 15M protests in 2011.
